Join the University Scholars Program for a Fall Break trip you won’t soon forget. We’ll drive down to Tallulah Gorge State Park, Georgia on Thursday, October 5 and set up camp for the weekend. Friday, we’ll explore the park and the gorge-eous views it provides! (Get it? I made a pun.) Saturday we’ll enjoy sleeping in at camp and then go for a 5-hour white water rafting tour on the Chattooga River with Nantahala Outdoor Center – it’s GREAT! Then, Sunday, we’ll say goodbye to our campsite and drive back to campus. It’s going to be a trip full of Chester’s Spotify playlist, delicious camping food, and big adventure on the river.

Outdoor Explorations Kayaking and Soundscapes on the NC Coast

Join the University Scholars Program and the NCSU Libraries for a one of a kind experience of some of the most beautiful coastline in North Carolina. You will learn the basics of soundscape creation using audio recording devices, music software, and multimedia techniques to capture a weekend of sounds at Hammocks Beach State Park near Swansboro, NC. The course meets weekly on Thursday nights in preparation for our journey. Then, you’ll kayak to Bear Island in mid-October, where you will record the many fascinating sounds we encounter (think wind, waves, flora, fauna, and folks). Upon our return to campus, you’ll mesh and meld your sounds together to create unique soundscapes that will be presented in a Scholars Forum event at the Library. This is sure to be one of the most unique trips you ever take. You can use this experience to count as one of your required high impact activities.

**Please review the course outline and schedule before you register for this trip. You must agree to attend all course sessions in order to attend this trip.
